afaik it tries to convert whatever you put in there into a number. if it can do it, it's numeric.
why not use perhaps a regex to check for any non 0-9's?
or just do a simple replace on all " " for "_" perhaps? It would certainly return false then...?
My suspicion is that it does a trim before testing, because it may recieve data from a form which can often having extra whitespace, although I agree, if there is whitespace, then it's an error (unless there's a number format where whitespace is allowed???).
