you'd probably have to call a function when you submit your form, to do the check. haven't tried integrating event handlers with soEditor. to limit number of words, you basically count the text as a string with whitespace as a delimiter. it's not strictly accurate, e.g: foo
bar would count as 3 or 4 words, due to the CRLF's between the lines. i don't have the actual code you require at hand... not sure why you're getting empty strings or previous values, sounds like an error in your Javascript code?
