Hi Jean-Marie,

While there may not be actual dates on the planning mentioned on the support website (http://support.chamilo.org/projects/chamilo-20/wiki/Planning), it is an indication of the current intentions of the development team. The current list is based on what people told us on the developers meeting back in January and could already use some tuning as some projects have been pushed back indefinitely and others have gotten a higher priority.

Release management as such is not completely dependent upon a piece of software which merely offers additional support for it, but it would greatly facilitate things. Even with a fully functional package manager the next "simultaneous" release might take some time. After an initial discussion and some preliminary development, real development was started in January (2011) and has been ongoing ever since. Taking into account quite a bit of holidays and the fact that I cannot afford to have someone working on it full time - 40 to 50% maximum - it will take some time. The introduction of Bitbucket for the source code enabled us to further integrate things into the package manager and make packaging of new releases easier. This however also implied a considerable penalty development-time wise.

I'm still confident though that we can manage to get basic functionality up and running for the proposed mid-term range. The package manager (and specifcally what remains to be done and what should still be done) is on the agenda of the code sprint, so I should have some more conclusive information for you by this Friday.

The package manager is only part of the deal though. If and when it goes operational I feel that same platform should also host the translation tool and possibly the community handbook.

Best regards,
Hans

Hi Hans

I noticed that the available download on the Chamilo site still is the early
December release. I gather from previous discussions that release management
for Chamilo 2 will only be possible after work on the package manager is
more or less completed. This development is essential to the progress in the
Chamilo 2 line.
Have you got any idea about the time schedule involved here?

with kind regards
