The plugins I'm aware of don't use very specific CKEditor functionality. A new version shouldn't be much of a problem. Just make sure to add the additional translation sections to the new version.

So as far as I'm concerned: go ahead :)

Hi fellow developers!

Recently a bug with the CKEditor and IE9 crossed my path
(http://support.chamilo.org/issues/3360) which states the editor simply doesn’t
load.

I’ve done some minor research and a quick lookup in google thought me that much
of the IE-related problems concerning the editor could be solved by installing
a new version.

You can see on http://ckeditor.com/blog/CKEditor_3.5.2_released there is a
section called “Internet Explorer 9 RC Compatibility”. Here you can read: Due
to the bug in implementation of the JavaScript do... while statement on
Microsoft side, CKEditor was blocked from displaying in the browser. So this
issue should be resolved when installing a new version. There already is a
version 3.6 available and the changelog of previous versions shows a lot of
changes that are made to improve IE compatibility.

My primary concern is that possibly the custom plugins will be broken. I’m not
that familiar with custom plugins, so I would like the opinion of the dev team
on this issue before pushing a new version of the editor.

Any suggestions, remarks, ideas?
