Although in the 1.8 we have a different problem, I had already considered and studied launchpad and I really think it would be a good move to use it, mostly because some professional translators there often translate additional projects just for fun, and you can handle suggestions by non-official translators and just review them and decide on the best translation. Also, all same strings found in other projects are automatically suggested as translations to your own strings.
