First of all, don't run ANYTHING as root. Ever. Ever Ever Ever.
Seriously, do 'exit' right now so that you don't accidentally do
damage to your system.

Secondly, it's 'compiz-manager'. Note the dash?

If you want to launch compiz directly, you'll need to use compiz
--replace ccp&. 'compiz core' will load compiz and the core plugin
(which is implicitly loaded anyways), so it wont actually do much ;-)
