Hi devs, seeing QFX5200 [1] and ConnectX-4 EN [2], I noticed ConnectX-4 EN claims support for doing encaps in hardware (NVGRE, VXLAN, GENEVE, MPLS, QinQ, etc)
I guess that this, possibly additionally in combination with some virtualization offloading techniques, could 1) improve a regular fast-path case, and 2) improve super-tweaked fast-path case as well. It's highly interesting to understand how / if one could wire up these things on to OpenContrail. First, whether it works for a slow path / fast path case, where session establishment etc runs as today, but dataplane moves to hardware, and secondarily (and possibly impossibly), to even accelerate session establishments. Any thoughts on the list? Obviously the encap/decap support has to spread to more regularly used adapters other than 100GE.
