Couldn't one just replace 'arch=any' with 'arch=(x86_64 i686
armv7h)' to make the package different for different arches?

yes i did exactly that for v1.8.2

I mean "only replace arch= ... " and nothing else.
What is the value added by having different pkgversion,
_version_constraint(), source, sha256sums, ... ?

As I understand, this makes the PKGBUILD working for all arches,
whereas just changing arch=... breaks it for armv7h. IMHO this should
not be an issue since one can "git checkout" a working version.

Am I wrong? What is the point I'm missing?
