I adjusted it to be
include_path = ".:/php/includes:/usr/share/pear/"
still no luck... Does /php/includes correspond to an actual path on a BSD box?

I upgraded all the PEAR modules and installed PEAR_Frontend_Gtk and
PEAR_Frontend_Web as they were suggested for the PEAR upgrade.
