If it's just for you, ya gmail is the best option...if it's for a business I think they have something against that but I haven't taken the time to read all the legal stuff :)
did you reconstruct the mailboxes? su - cyrus -c 'reconstruct -r user' to rebuild any subfolders you'll have to create them with a client then do the reconstruct and it should be able to reindex them.
