Depends completely on your postfix (or other MTA) config.
You probably have something like:
smtpd_sender_restrictions =
permit_mynetworks,
permit_sasl_authenticated
While what you really want is:
smtpd_sender_restrictions =
permit_sasl_authenticated,
permit_mynetworks
