Hi,
FYI: I was able to flash a custom firmware onto my Z1, and acquired full
root access to my Z1.
cronos tools # ./sdb root on
Switched to 'root' account mode
cronos tools # ./sdb shell
sh-3.2# whoami
root
sh-3.2# mount -o remount rw /
sh-3.2# mount
rootfs on / type rootfs (rw)
/dev/root on / type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
sh-3.2# uname -a
Linux TIZEN 3.10.17 #1-Tizen SMP PREEMPT Mon Jun 29 04:32:29 UTC 2015

trying to build Tizen 3.0 for the Z1.

Thanks again for the info, MyungJoo! I see that you spoke at
TDC2014SF,
but I don't think we met?

How would you compare-and-contrast the Tizen OAL approach with
https://sailfishos.org/develop/hadk/?

OAL is OEM Adaptation Layer, which allows you to let the lower part of
userspace middleware forget about the differences in kernel interfaces
and
hardware components. For example, in OAL, you can give the path to
control
"display brightness" so that display brightness controlling software
does
not care where it really is. Please refer to
https://wiki.tizen.org/wiki/Porting_Guide for more specifics; from
chapter 8, it mostly talks about OAL.
Roughly, you may regard the layers as: APP - API - Upper Middleware -
Lower Middleware ("System") - OAL - Kernel. There are many kernel
interfaces that never requires OAL because they are fully
standardized.
However, we still have a lot of hardware or kernel features that are
not
yet standardized in Linux or variances (e.g., device name is included
in
the path) in Linux.
Cheers,
MyungJoo

Right. Thanks for the insight.
And there is no public work happening on creating a Tizen 3.0 image
for
Z1, as far as anybody is aware?
Please could you define "OAL", MyungJoo? I am afraid that I am
unfamiliar with that acronym. Best wishes.

If declaring "I'm running Tizen 3.0 on Z1" is enough (many
peripherals
may not work, the performance might suck, the battery life is short,
...),
you'll need to get Tizen 3.0 OAL compatible with Z1 kernel (I'm not
saying
that it's a trivial task). In theory, Z1 kernel might not require any
significant work (if you are just targetting the above) as it's
already
3.10.
But, just loading RD-PQ Tizen userspace image onto Z1? I don't expect
it'd work. You may need to repartition the eMMC as well, I don't
expect Z1
and RD-PQ have an identical partition table.
Cheers,
MyungJoo.

*Title* : Re: [Dev] Tizen 3.0 Mobile. What device(s)?
So it should be possible to flash that RD-PQ image onto the Z1, Ash?
So then the killer question becomes... Has anybody successfully
flashed
that Tizen 3.0 Mobile image onto a Z1?
Somebody should try that and make a video of it. Somebody who makes
good community videos. For a great community site. Maybe :-)

Great. Thanks for the info, Maciej. I will have to dig my RD-PQ
out of
storage.
No way of getting an image onto the Z1, I suppose, because of the
secure
boot-loader?

What device(s) is everybody running Tizen 3.0 Mobile profile on?
You can run it on RD-PQ:
<
http://download.tizen.org/snapshots/tizen/mobile/latest/images/arm-wayland/
mobile-boot-armv7l-RD-PQ contains kernel and bootloader
mobile-wayland-armv7l-n4 contains userspace
It is also possible to run it on Odroid U3.
