Any chance of https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOG4J2-3601 / https://github.com/apache/logging-log4j2/pull/1064 (and then maybe https://github.com/apache/logging-log4j2/pull/1142) making it before 2.20.0 and 3.0.0-alpha1?
It would be nice for the log4j-slf4j2-impl module to behave the way many/most people would likely expect it to, and as the previous incarnations of it all seem to have done, enabling folks to upgrade in the simplest path rather than needing to investigate and understand why it no longer works the same way as before and then having to add additional dependency entries in lots of places to compensate for it.
