Newbie: Interested in contributing to Lucene source code

My name is Rajath Agasthya. I am a software engineer at Cisco. I would like
to contribute to Lucene's source code. I am aware of the newdev issues on
JIRA. But any other suggestions on how to get started is appreciated.
