What's JAVA_HOME? And what commands are you running to build Solr? >From what directory?
If you're in an IDE somehow, you may have to set the language level. Let's see the full command you use to try the build, and the error that's output. Perhaps there's something else that's happening that somehow looks like the wrong Java version. Also, how are you getting the code?
