For Lucene anyway (and I suspect most/all ASF projects?), there is an (out-of-band) trace: the archive of log messages emailed to [email protected]. With this permanent record, I think that the value of the ability to fix misinformation outweighs the risk of evil-doers changing history. So it won’t be me notifying infra. Not that it matters much for Lucene/Solr at this point, since we’re mostly moving to Git anyway.
