Turns out that the polygon intersection check doesn't work anyhow. There are
enough co-planar points here that it can't find any planes to actually check
for intersection! This is because it needs the plane and two boundary planes
for each intersection check. The boundary planes can be shared but not the
planes themselves (or the intersection check will always fail). Argh.
