This looks very good.
I think we just need to fix the logging one bite at a time and commit stuff as
we go. This is a huge step wrt readability of Cloud logging! Then we can tackle
shutdown cases next perhaps, could be a bit more tricky to detect normal cases
from the irregular ones perhaps?
