Nobody ever said there was a bottleneck. We do all our internode communications
in binary format for a reason. It offers real performance improvements and
memory efficiency. That's not to say that wet should stop at this. The code
has so many other inefficiencies too. All of them add up. You should look at
SOLR-486 to see the history of binary format.
