Yosef Brown commented on SOLR-12638:
------------------------------------

If we require the child document's id to begin with the parent's id, and the
parent document id itself is a composite
(https://lucene.apache.org/solr/guide/7_5/shards-and-indexing-data-in-solrcloud.html#document-routing
advocates using id prefixes for shard routing), the child document will end up
with 2 exclamation separators (and schemas with more levels of nesting will
have even more exclamations).

What is the impact of having multiple exclamations in a (child) document id?

> Support atomic updates of nested/child documents for nested-enabled schema

> I have been toying with the thought of using this transformer in conjunction
> with NestedUpdateProcessor and AtomicUpdate to allow SOLR to completely
> re-index the entire nested structure. This is just a thought, I am still
> thinking about implementation details. Hopefully I will be able to post a
> more concrete proposal soon.
