So I managed to get this working for solr v7.4. I did have to upgrade the 
version of hadoop from v2.7.4 to v2.8.1. Thank you [~krisden] your repo was 
extremely helpful in this.

I have made the following repo containing the patch files to upgrade hadoop to 
v2.8.1 as well as the aws dependencies I used, and an example {{solr.xml}} and 
{{core-site.xml}} file: [https://github.com/richardbadman/solr-backup-s3]
