I git-bisected it and the test starts to pass after 2e468abecc – this commit
doesn't change anything in the code, sadly, only changes the test environment
(so the same seed results in a different directory – that's my guess). I think
the problem may still be present in the codebase. If you go back one commit
from the one above, the test still hangs.
