I don’t recall adding a comment off the top of my head but I know I ran into a
bunch of ugly little issues after this change where the descriptor can now be
null when it couldn’t in the past. I had to change a bunch of plugin code to
grab the descriptor right away and save it vs count on being able to get it
from the core always.
