Hi @devs, I've opened this: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-14621. This issue is for deprecating it now (and removing it or factoring it out into a package eventually).
We've carried HDFS support for too long. For a leaner, more maintainable solr-core, we should get rid of HDFS support from there. It is, unfortunately, not as loosely coupled with core pieces as it should be. Please comment on the JIRA if you have any objections. Thanks and regards, Ishan
