As long as we have the JavaBin back-compat broken situation (SOLR-2204) we need
XML as a common format which can talk to both 1.4 and 3.x/4.x versions. Of
course you can argue that from 4.x we do not need to stay back-compat with
other than 3.x but that's an active choice we would need to make. I don't see a
clear benefit in REMOVING support for XML as long as Javabin is default.
