I dont know groovy, but this sounds great. I only used the built-in task to find the javadocs bugs quickly and because it was much easier, but i hate it!!!!
The worst thing about the built-in task is it puts all its output in this ByteArrayStream instead of a file, so if you actually have broken docs, it just tells you "jtidy failed" but hides all the useful output.
