An update to my previous path. After more consideration, I've pulled the pivot
facet logic out of DistributedProcess and call those specific parts when doing
the iterative refinement process to avoid any side effects of other people
putting code into DistributedProcess. I've also added better support for null
values and added tests to ensure that you can send refinement requests for null
values and not blow up the stack.
