Can't we split this issue up? I think the current discussion is focused much on
this sorted segments thing, but thats not the only possible implementation for
this kind of thing.
Already you can terminate the whole query (globally) by throwing an exception
from your collector.
So to me the next step is to make it easier to terminate the collection of just
one segment and have IndexSearcher proceed to the other ones. This can just be
a special marker exception (extends RuntimeException) in IndexSearcher. Then
any collector can do this.
