Yonik Seeley commented on SOLR-3251:
------------------------------------
bq. I think ideally it would actually be core reload
That would be much more complex... reloading a core is very heavy-weight, and
doing it in the middle of an update request that adds a new field? Whew.
I think the current patch is safe for what it does now which is only add new
fields. It's also safer than trying to introduce a new dependency on schema
(i.e. opening a searcher).
We know there are going to be additional issues to watch for if/when we get
around to changing (or deleting) fields, and I think the current patch leaves
enough flexibility to deal with those issues in the future.
