Having a long history, with problems in SOLR-3238 and SOLR-4176, hopefully it
now does the job it's supposed to do *g
the reported failures are still fixed with this change, the issue in that
report is only reported to the + Char, since the underlying jQuery method
replaces a whitespace with a +, so the (custom) fix the first time was to
replace + with a whitespace, which didn't work in that case.
