Well crap,
rmuir just pointed out to me on IRC that things i thought looked correct (like
Arabic and Hindi) are not actually correct because the RTL direction and
character->glyph mapping isn't quite right.
so i think the best solution is to punt on this, and change the examples to use
images -- spun off into SOLR-5031
