Simon, Are you using the maven-compiler-plugin's “maxmem” configuration?: <http://maven.apache.org/plugins/maven-compiler-plugin/compile-mojo.html#maxmem>. I’ve never had to use this before, but you should also be able to try it on the command line using -Dmaven.compiler.maxmem=512m (or whatever size is required).
