Don't take it personally, Robert. I meant it to be a sincere
discussion and looking for solutions rather than aggregating flame
wars. I prefer git over svn now even if I used svn for a long time
(and liked it at the time). It's not the hype for me. It's not about
the "new" vs. the "old". It's pragmatism: I can do many things faster
and better with git than with svn.

I personally found this explanation of how git works excellent and
straightforward. Don't know how much it helps (or not).

This seems a lot easier to understand to me than SVN merge
properties... but then -- perhaps I'm biased because I like graphs. :)
