Greets, Joe Schaefer did a little troubleshooting on Friday and we got the website to publish properly to lucy.apache.org. We can now see the changes Logan made to adapt page locations and links to our new TLP home. I think we're all good -- all pages are in the right places, and all links are correct.
The next step is to update the content here and there. http://lucy.apache.org/people.html * Change PPMC to PMC, etc. * Update personnel lists per http://wiki.apache.org/lucy/LucyCharter http://lucy.apache.org/download.html * Remove the word "incubating" from the sample file names in the "Verifying downloaded files" section. (Leave the link text of the 0.3.0 tarball alone, though.) http://lucy.apache.org/mailing_lists.html * Perhaps change "Incubation Archives" to "Old Archives", as many visitors will not understand what "Incubation" means? Then there's the homepage. http://lucy.apache.org/index.html * Remove Incubation disclaimer (top) and link to incubation status page (bottom). * IMO, remove history section touching on Incubator, KinoSearch and Lucene sub-project eras. * Add ASF Feather logo and paragraph placing Lucy within the context of the ASF (text taken from www.apache.org home page). * Add prominent "Download" section? * Add "Getting Started" section linking to Tutorial? Here's what I propose as content for the homepage: #### Overview The Apache Lucy search engine library provides full-text search for dynamic programming languages. It is a "loose C" port of the [Apache Luceneā¢](http://lucene.apache.org/) search engine library for Java. ------------------------------------------------------------------ #### Download The current release of Apache Lucy is [0.3.0](/download.html). ------------------------------------------------------------------ #### Getting Started After downloading and installing Lucy, consider stepping through the tutorial: * [Perl tutorial](/docs/perl/Lucy/Docs/Tutorial.html) ------------------------------------------------------------------ #### The Apache Software Foundation <img src="images/asf_feather.png" style="float:right; margin: 0px 0px 5px 5px"> The [Apache Software Foundation](http://www.apache.org/) provides support for the Apache community of open-source software projects, which provide software products for the public good. The Apache projects are defined by collaborative consensus based processes, an open, pragmatic software license and a desire to create high quality software that leads the way in its field. One noteworthy aspect of the proposed text: no dates and no "news" section. I strongly dislike homepages that must be constantly refreshed in order to avoid giving a bad impression. Last, there are the versioned Perl docs, which could use some CSS help and other treatment -- but that's a separate task, IMO (so please change the subject header if you want to discuss).
