Installation to a custom directory was tested for every build. The C sample
getting_started.c was tested successfully for every C build.
The LICENSE contains a notice about the install-sh script from GNU autotools
which we don't bundle anymore. The C bindings originally used autoconf but
this was replaced by our own build system. (The new install.sh script is not
from autoconf.) I don't think this issue is a release blocker.
