I can't either. But the distribution I downloaded from orgapachemahout-001 this morning produced the same examples problem as a new distribution I built from trunk this morning around 08:30 PDT. There was a commit over night which broke it, AFAICT, since it was working yesterday evening. Since this morning there has been another commit and a new distribution I built from it is working. Maybe it's time for me to learn to speak POM, but I think it might be a good time to stop messing with trunk.
