Thanks, Joe. I committed most of your patch, but made the old scripts be pass
throughs to the new ones (with a deprecation warning), as I figured we have a
fair amount of documentation out on them already. Also added a README. I left
factorize off b/c I wasn't sure how Sebastian wanted to handle those.
