Greetings, I wanted to make a suggestion about your "about" on the website.
Right now the about starts with this: "The Apache Mahoutâ„¢ machine learning library's goal is to build scalable machine learning libraries." This doesn't say what Mahout is, or how it's used. It's confusing so someone who's not already a computer scientist, and maybe some who are. Why not say something like this: Apache Mahout (TM) is a library of statistical algorithms known as machine learning algorithms. This library is used with [insert programming language names, or whatever, here]. There [is / is not] a [graphical / command line] interface to Mahout. The goal of Mahout (TM) is to be scalable, which means that these algorithms can be applied using Map-Reduce on a single computer, or on a networked cluster of computers. Mahout can be used on a [Windows / Mac / Linux] machine. I don't know if this is exactly accurate, or if this is what you want to say, but something along these lines would be a lot more clear than what's there now. Right now it starts with a definition of scalable, then discusses the (unsettled) Apache license, mentions goals, and then finally talks about features of Mahout, but still leaves the reader unclear about what Mahout is. Can it be a free standing application? Is it a library that you can import into java/python/C++? Thanks. Gene
