I am already working on replacing the existing lang3 calls with the equivalent Guava/Java methods (per Ted's parting shot comment in https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MAHOUT-1187). I don't have a JIRA created for what I am working on yet, but if you could go ahead and create a JIRA for this issue I can also add my stuff under the same JIRA.
