Good to hear I guess more of us should do that. Lots of projects are moving
their entire support effort to SO because you get more cross pollination. If
the questions is partly about hadoop you also get those people to help—sort of
system wide help for projects with lots of integration points

Also activity of github and SO make the project more visible. So much of Mahout
is deeply technical but at the job level SO may be where the potential users
are. The great thing about OSS is the (relative) lack of marketing blather but
there is nothing wrong with being visible. The guy with the recommender
evaluation question posted on both so it was an easy matter to copy-paste
answer on both.

I guess I’ll listen to both and answer wherever they post.

I subscribe to mahout and other topics on SO and try to redirect people to
the mailing lists after giving some level of answer.
