Hi Andrew, I sent an email to d...@community.apache.org asking if there would be a problem if I apply for a GSoC in Apache Mahout even though the ideas list page does not contain any issue related to Mahout. I went on to mention that as far I my knowledge goes, organizations often encourage students who propose a new idea other than those already listed. I also emailed Trevor and Shannon personally.
