It appears from this:

... that classloader considerations are quite important with powermock. I
begin to suspect, therefore, that the issue with Ant vs. Maven is that they
invoke classes using a different classloader setup.
The sheer number of gotchas and issues with powermock as described in their FAQ
leads me to think that maybe we should find the SIMPLEST mock framework
available and use that instead.
