Karl Wright commented on CONNECTORS-1480:
-----------------------------------------

Hi Shashank,

The file system connector crawls file documents with all "open" permissions,
meaning that anyone can see them.
If you are not seeing them in Solr at all, that probably means that you did not
include your File System connection in the authority group along with your
authorities. Just add it to the appropriate group and recrawl and they should
start to appear.

If you are in fact trying to apply Unix file protections to Solr, then several
things need to be done:
(1) You need to create a file system authority that looks up unix groups for
your user, and
(2) You'd need the file system connector to obtain the unix owner and groups
for every file.

Both of these would only work on Unix systems, so we'd have to talk through how
to maintain backwards compatibility and portability for the current File System
connector.

Please clarify what you are trying to do.

Also, rather than open a ticket for what sounds like basic confusion, please
instead join the [email protected] list and post your questions there.
 Thanks!

> I have been working on a project based on file system crawling through
> ManifoldCF and indexing it through Solr. While crawling, manifold initially
> doesn't look for *file permissions* and hence it does not shows up on the
> query list of Solr 7.1.
> To add custom fields we need to edit +mcf-filesystem-connector.jar+ present
> in +apache-manifoldcf-2.9-bin\apache-manifoldcf-2.9\connector-lib+ .
> If there any method already present to get file permissions and linux qgroups
> without editing the source code since I am looking for version flexibility,
> it would be very helpful.
> I am just starting up with ManifoldCF so it would be really helpful if you
> guide me through the process. Thanks in advance.
