What product would be pushed from a marketing standpoint then? The Mac X11 version, NeoOffice, or both?
As a Mac user who has used used both the X11 port and NeoOffice/J - as well as having a pretty good familiarity with OpenOffice.org for Windows (since I'm more of a Windows user than Mac, although that's changing), I'd say NeoOffice/J 100 out of 100 times.
The X11 port is ugly. It has to call up a separate program (namely X11) in order to even start. It's more of a system hog. And it doesn't look or act like a Mac program.
It would be like asking whether we should promote the Linux native port or OOo for Windows under WINE for Linux. You obviously promote the one that works best and most transparently with the native environment. That's NeoOffice/J - no questions asked.
I've heard the arguments for the X11 port, and they really don't stack up at all when it comes to end user experience. They don't care about the "political" or "programming" reasons for the X11 port - they just care about having a good program that works. That *is* NeoOffice/J.
NeoOffice/J all the way.
