We have tried thank the contributing corporatiosn publicly, like ...
Novell. But that ran up against two reefs: Those of Novell's fairly
byzantine PR department, and the fact that there were too many OOo cooks
stirring the broth for a while, causing some confusion on everyone's
side. In the end, a non-OOo representative independently sought to do a
case study on Novell, and we more or less but not definitively decided
to use his case study. It never materialized, afaik, but we would still
like to do these things to highlight Novell's participation:
* Case study: Write an article examining how Novell uses OOo
internally.
* Interviews of key Novell players: Michael Meeks, to start with (I
sent him sometime in Augst, September, October interview questions and
reminders), but others also. Novell has the most non-Sun developers
working on OOo, but do people know of Novell's work?
* Accounts of the patches committed, work done, direction headed by
Novell; why it is contributing to OOo, what it stands to gain, things
like that.
I have also asked for Red Hat to respond to similar questions and am
slowly proceeding in that. RH's responses are the rate-initiating step
here.
After some thinking, I have decided to use Debian's model of
representing "partners" and "sponsors." Partners are those who
contribute coding, sponsors, cash. The model is a page honoring each.
I'd like to re-start these discussions.
