Hello

I have been meaning to post for some time about people dropping the '.org"
when writing or reporting about OpenOffice.org, and having read this today,
I think now is a good time.

I agree with Jacqueline on this point. We should try to encourage people to
use the .org. I kinda like OOo, it's very distinctive.

I agree with Jacqueline too, and I try to support the use of OpenOffice.org in my own writing. If I use OOo in any official documentation, I tend to introduce the acronym by placing it in parenthesis after using OpenOffice.org first.

Example: OpenOffice.org (OOo) is a free open source office suite. OOo contains a
word processor, a spreadsheet module...

I am a bit lazy in email responses, and use the OOo acronym often without
introduction, unless it is clear I am writing to a new user. I tend to be much
lazier and more casual in all language that I use when responding to list mail.

We can quietly lead by example... I agree others won't consistently follow. We
often see it from leaders at the OpenOffice.org community. I tried to press the
issue a long while back, and did an on-site search to help back my argument, and
found that we are not consistent within our own site. After learning that, I
dropped my argument, because it seemed pointless and somewhat discriminatory to
the person I was hounding about it. Yet, if I update that work myself in any
way, I will change OpenOffice or Open Office to OpenOffice.org in every
instance. Find and Replace All is an awesome tool!

I admit that it is sometimes a challenge to work into a good sounding sentence.
I tend to edit sentences that contain the name frequently to get things to flow
well. I attempt to represent the name how it was originally intended, and will
continue to do so in any official documentation, just out of respect to the
policies originally set forth by the community.

You have my support, Jacqueline. I try to use it or update it on any files that
I touch, and will continue to do my work this way.

(We tend to favor cows here in VT too, btw.... in some cases it gets rather
fanatical. MOOo! :)

Best,
Diane
