Hi
I think [EMAIL PROTECTED] is probably better for this discussion--I'm thinking
we should focus on 2.0 marketing and discuss non-marketing things on
[EMAIL PROTECTED] But...

>I suppose it would have to be Sourcecast so I daresay we go through
Louis?

The current version of SourceCast actually does have forums, and these,
I believe, are integrated to emails. Also, you can use Gmane, a
newsgroup feature, which allows usage of RSS.

To implement a 3rd party app? probably not. But, the issue really
should depend on what you want done. For instance, all of us use IRC
--freenode--and a lot of us IM for daily discussions, chats, etc. These
are particularly useful for meetings, group discussions, and like.
Forums are, too. For cross-list work, we use IZ, which is not
well-suited for live interaction.

Setting up a forum on this or any other project is fairly
straightforward. The project leads have to do it, I think, and one must
subscribe to a particular forum; messages from that forum appear on your
start page.

Subsequent versions of SourceCast--called CollabNet Enterprise Edition
3.0 (CEE 3.0), improve the arrangement. But, of course, as SC or CEE
will never satisfy all, so there are bound to be imperfections.

Hence, the IRC solution for some debates; or IM. In open source
environments, the rule is: openness; inclusiveness. This sometimes,
obviously, has its drawbacks. :-/ But it's a necessary pain. Using IRC
goes against the openness dogma--only a few are included--but in that
case, the rule of thumb is never to make what is decided there
"official", and to share the log file.

Sorry to answer your simple question in such a roundabout way....

Oh, the forums for Marketing are here:
<http://marketing.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectForumView> You have to
be logged in and a member of Marketing Project to view them.
