"But is Sun's productivity suite slowing down the development of OpenOffice.org?"

I don't think so. This is the response I received from Martin when I asked what the differences were between SO and OOo 2.0 Beta.

"It's not really different. SO8 Beta is based on SRC680m78, OOo 2.0 Beta
is based on SRC680m79, between the both version are no functional
differences in the shared code. What this time is different, that a
community (meaning not Sun maintained) piece of code (thesaurus) hasn't
made it in time, this is (as far i can see) beside some build
configuration issues, which went im m79, the only difference."

i give you a better link: http://www.sun.com/software/star/staroffice/beta/ the beta can be downloaded for free from there and compared with OOo 1.9.79

i made such a comparison (http://www.nicubunu.ro/so7/) in the 1.1.0 RC timeframe and reached a conclusion: the only significant difference is in extras: templates, clipart, fonts.
at that time was another difference, the icon set, but is no more the case.
