Hi Louis

Hi Most of you are probably aware that Martin Hollmichel, Release Manager, has scheduled 24 February for the 2.0 Beta candidate release. Thanks to Elizabeth, Sophie, Jacqueline, and others, we have the necessary feature guide (very detaied, very excellent--thanks Jacqueline for the latest verion!). But we are still lacking some other things.
ART:
Namely, it's not clear we'll have the winning splashscreen ready by the 24th. In case we don't, I'd like to ask Art project if they could draft one. My primary desire is to use the winning entry but....
Second, the beta will likely confuse people because of the change in format. Do we have a clear, succinct description of that change and what it means? If not, would someone like to draft one? (Note: this might qualify as "overview", which Elizabeth is driving, though that is for Final.)
I'm adding these points to the issue we are using to track work on 2.0, including the Beta. The issue: <http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=28741>
In the issue you said:
"The overview is for Final, but would you --or someone-- be willing to draft a summary of the differences in 2.0? I'm concerned, of course, about the file changes."
And in the issue, I responded:
The feature guide that Sophie and I prepared (with the finishing touches from several others) ONLY includes the _differences_ between OOo 1.1 and OOo 2.0: i.e. only new or improved features. The file format change is listed as a feature.
The feature guide is for the Beta release.
The goal was to have the guide complete in time for the Beta release and it is being localized for that purpose. There will not be a separate guide for Beta or Final. (Beta is feature complete)
Michael Lim provided the short feature overview of the most important features to the marketing list. That was the last marketing document/collateral that I was coordinating. I am not working on or coordinating any other material.
The community should feel free to use the feature guide as a basis for creating marketing material about new features for OOo 2.0.
I hope by posting this information to the list to let a wider audience know that, for more marketing material, volunteers should feel encouraged to chime in and get creative.
I'm not able to coordinate any further documentation. I have a severe problem with the muscles and tendons in my right arm that makes it very difficult to use the mouse or type (for several weeks already) and because I have to force myself to type so I don't lose my job ;-) it is not healing as fast as it should. Thus I have had to greatly reduce my correspondence and will continue to be "scarce" for a while.
Oh and BTW, I love you all, too (Thanks Jason for the "official friendly thread"!)
Plus, while I'm at it ----a BIG THANKS to those volunteers that made the OOoRegiCon NA possible. You are all on my list of super-duper-deluxe OOo community members!
Big hugs all around (I'm just in that kind of mood :-) ) Elizabeth
