According to information I have tracked, the University of the Philippines is strongly promoting OpenOffice.

If the University promotes and supports it, that should be a significant help in getting the general population to be aware of and to use OpenOffice.

Just now searching the web, I also found this article: http://www.itnetcentral.com/computerworld/article.asp? id=14413&info=Computerworld&leveli=0

I do notice there are a lot of internet cafe's here. im wondering if
theyre using OOo, I'll check, because here in the Philippines a lot of
people dont own pcs, they would just rent at the internet cafes. i'll
ty to see if they would be interested in converting to OOo, since a
lot of them use bootleg copis of MSO.

There have been some marketing campaigns but to have a constant campaigns we would need more organization. Usually derives from the lack of funds which
prohibit us from make more promotional material.

You can look at the art project (whithin the marketing project) to see
banners,
icons, wallpapers, etc.

We do have a press release contacts as well as some writters devoted to the
efforts of OOo within Linux Journal and other Linux magazines.

I give away cds for free to people i know and people i deal with
everyday. but with so many bootleg copies of MSO its difficult to
market. Also there is not much marketing material here neither is
there a concerted effrot to market OOo. Im sure a lot of people are
doing their own bit but i dont believe its organized.

Dear fellow marketer,

I have been reading the marketing news digest and realise that
most of the marketing work are done in US or Europe where there is a
major group of people doing great work on promoting the product. I am wondering whether there is any work to say Asia (I think there are work
on China or India). How about other countries?

Sorry for my ignorance. I would very much want to learn and
contribute to the success.

Harris
